Synthetic chemistry and chemical industry have brought great progress to the society. Since the development of more than two hundred years, it is difficult to further simplify the steps and improve the yield of over complex molecules. Synthetic biology, which has been developing for more than ten years, uses biological natural laws and life systems to precisely complete each step of synthetic reaction, just like a superb synthetic chemistry technician. Instead of considering the development of synthetic biology as an alternative strategy to synthetic chemistry, we should consider whether the integration of the two will bring more possibilities? A chemist and a biologist are invited to discuss how synthetic chemistry and synthetic biology can be integrated to build a sustainable future for human beings.
